About Us

Heidi Stalla is Assistant Professor of Humanities at Yale-NUS College in Singapore. She publishes literary criticism, creative nonfiction and audio essays. This project in particular, because of the scope of creative possibilities stemming from a single handscroll, speaks to her love of interdisciplinary research and collaborations.

Current projects are supported by research assistant Tracey Toh, who is working on the documentary, ongoing translation, research on the scroll and life of Ling Shu Hua, with a particular focus on Ling Shu Hua’s time in Singapore.

The small and mighty team in the 2021 Yale-NUS Summer Research Programme includes Dou Jingzhi, Ivan Lin, and Roy Lara. Among other invaluable contributions, they have performed translations of the scroll and primary sources in Chinese, studied key historical personalities, and helped to produce the pilot documentary.
